Experience Design

DMDN212

Course Info

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.
Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955)

Observation – Sensation – Participation

On the forefront of contemporary design practice stands experience design – the field that focuses on creating successful experiences for a variety of audiences. Digital technology is increasingly the central core for many practices, and experience design is no exception. The holistic approach towards all factors, perceptive senses, environment, emotional and personal context, as well as interactivity plays a role in the design of an experience.

To gain footing in this field, this course will begin with the analysis of interactive installations and experiments with audio-visual components. Further on, the goal is to create systems that respond to the user through generative, multi-dimensional processes. New software platforms enable the dynamic arrangement of effects of colour, sound, pattern and interaction. The design can span a multitude of contents and contexts to alter the understanding of interiors, intensify spatial awareness and to engage in the exploration of new interpretations.
