Interactive Control Systems with Desired Outcomes
Computer Gaming is a new cultural space evolving from the histories of role-playing, gaming, literature, film and art. While the cultural and economic growth of this field is staggering, it has received a relatively small amount of philosophical and academic critical perspective. This course aims to not only cover the vernacular of computer gaming, but to examine experimental concepts and practices that go beyond the status quo.
Taking a praxis-based approach, readings and discussion will guide creative projects. The trimester will consist of three sections: game analysis, character design and animation; programming techniques that focus on interaction and generative environments; and group projects modelled after computer gaming industry practices.
